Through the experience of living and working as a massage therapist on the island of Maui, I discovered lomilomi, the ancient form of Hawaiian healing massage. Dr. Maka'ala Yates, a Kanaka Maoli (of Hawaiian ancestry) is a highly respected Kumu Lomi Elima (master teacher of lomilomi). As my good friend and mentor, he has been fundamental in guiding me to a greater understanding of the principals of Hawaiian healing.
