Sonnenalp Resort & Spa Let the Sonnenalp treat you to the very best of the Colorado Rocky Mountains with the warmest European hospitality. The modest lodge our founders established 40 years ago led to the hotel and resort that rests at the heart of Vail Valley today - an award-winning destination intertwined in the fabric of an iconic community. The Sonnenalp features 112 delightfully comfortable, luxury suites and 15 hotel rooms - all with a view of either Gore Creek or Vail Village.

We commemorate a few of the stories we've had the pleasure to be a part of over the years, as well as the people who have made the Sonnenalp Hotel the special place that it is today over the last 40 years.
Services
As that humble German inn transformed into what would become a celebrated hotel and resort, its founders envisioned bringing their legacy of European hospitality and superior guest service to the United States. In the 1960s, the burgeoning village at the base of the Vail Ski Resort became the ideal location.
Situated within minutes from Gondola One, family-owned and operated Sonnenalp Vail offers a high-end alpine resort experience. Featuring Bavarian-inspired furniture and decor, all rooms and suites have flat-screen TVs, DVD players and free Wi-Fi, plus bathrooms with heated floors. All suites come equipped with balconies and fireplaces.
Getting to the Sonnenalp is remarkably easy. All major airlines service Denver International Airport, located 2 hours from Vail via I-70. Eagle County Regional Airport is another convenient option, just 35 minutes west of Vail via I-70. Both Eagle County and Denver International Airports offer car rentals, door-to-door shuttle ground transportation and private chauffeur service.
The traditional Sonnenalp experience includes: Suite or luxury room and daily breakfast in Ludwig's. Our kids programs include exploratory nature walks, sledding & ice skating, educational points of interest, arts & crafts and plenty of fresh air. Give the gift of Sonnenalp with a Sonnenalp Gift Cards. Gift Cards are redeemable for lodging, at the spa, at the golf course and in all our restaurants.

Gorgeous property in the heart of Vail Village. Spacious room, lots of amenities, very friendly staff. If you're going to spend big bucks in Vail, this is fhe place to do it.

ITEMS STOLEN FROM ROOM. AND HOTEL DID NOTHING. As my husband stated in his review. We had $27,000 worth jewelry stolen from our room the night of our wedding May 22,2021. The police report states a hotel employee gave it to another guest. Does that make sense to you guys? Cause it doesn't to us. As you can see we're pretty devastated, I was a local in Vail for many years, and worked along side some employees there and have known some there for years. Shame on me for thinking our stuff would be safe in our room. And shame on me for thinking they would handle this in a professional manner. If there can be a lesson learned from this. Don't bring your valuables if you stay there!

Three of us went to the king's lounge for a quick dinner of a burger and a cocktail. Our servers Lupo (sp?) Laska and Flavia we're so good it made this simple meal into a very memorable experience. The food was outstanding but they were so much better. I would go back here in a heartbeat.

This hotel is 5++++++ stars. I would highly recommend it to all! I won a night here off of an Instagram contest. I know, I always assumed they were rigged too, until I found myself getting to stay at one of the most highly rated hotels as a guest. The minute you walk in you are treated like royalty. Someone will greet you and welcome you to the hotel as the valet comes to collect your keys, and everyone with smiles.

The front desk will check you in and offer to store bags if it's not check-in time yet, and tell you how happy they are that you chose to stay with them. Once your room is ready, the hotel will text you to let you know you can return. This was so convenient. We were also really pleasantly surprised once we actually entered the room. It was spacious and rustic, with a good sized balcony.

The crown jewel of these rooms though? The bathrooms! They are exquisite. So much larger than expected with a huge tub and shower, all of the amenities you could ever ask for (forget your makeup wipes? No problem!) and most importantly, heated floors. Seeing marble tile floors your body immediately braces to step on a cool surface, so feeling warmth instead is such an indulgence. I'll admit I priced out adding heated bathroom floors to my home after indulging at the Sonnenalp. Leaving the hotel is so easy because it is conveniently located to just about everything.

We had a less than 10 minute walk anywhere we went, including the Four Seasons for the famous Haute Chocolat, Vail Village for shopping and dining, and Vintage Vail for brunch. I clocked over three miles that day just wandering around, enjoying the town. Once we were done exploring, heading back to the Sonnenalp to enjoy the King's Club is an absolute must-do.

The piano playing in the early evening is so romantic and calming, and you can enjoy a nice drink while you take it all in. We went for a 5:30 dinner at the Stuberl (also incredible), and when we left around 7:00 the King's Club was in full swing. The music had gotten more upbeat, complete with singing, and every table was taken with a line out the door.

Such a fun atmosphere. We skipped and went back to the room because my husband had overindulged throughout the day, and headed to bed early. Around eight our doorbell rang, so I answered and was greeted by the nicest man handing me cookies and water for bed. I have stayed in a million hotels and NEVER had a service like this. It was so wholesome and just another example of how above and beyond they go.

The Sonnenalp, and every single person we met that works inside of it, is and are exceptional. We would be incredibly lucky to get to stay here again, and I would highly recommend it to all who are traveling to Vail!

Great hotel to stay in for Vail and is located in the village - would recommend to book early as prices definitely go up closer to the weekend! Thought the staff was very kind and helpful! This hotel has more traditional vibes and fits the feel of the city! We stayed in a suite that was spacious and the bathroom was large with a big bathtub and separate shower.

It conveniently has 3 popular restaurants located within/attached to the hotel! They also have both an indoor and outdoor hot tub (though they both are on the smaller size, so wouldn't want more than 1 party in there at a time.) Of note they do charge an additional $50 resort fee per night. I enjoy getting a facial at the end of my ski trips, so did the same here. Got the standard facial and thought $180 (without tax/ tip) was a bit steep given the normality of it.

Absolutely fantastic accommodations in Vail! I've stayed at the Arrabelle and the Lodge at Vail, but Sonnenalp is above and beyond! The rooms are comfortable, the spa is amazing and the service is unparalleled! The staff is friendly and attentive, every detail of your stay is cared for meticulously. From the ski valet to the bar to the breakfast buffet. I may have a new favorite spot when staying in Vail!

The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Vail within walking distance of stores and great restaurants. The service is fantastic and the rooms very comfortable. I had several nights of sound sleep on a comfortable bed. I loved our little mini suite which was located on 2 floors with access to the king size bed via a spiral staircase. A nice gas log fireplace was the perfect ambiance for a cozy winter getaway. There's a humidifier in the room which is a must-use appliance with the air so dry in the mountains. And every night they come by with fresh baked cookies and extra bottles of water. I love this US-based swiss chalet and will definitely consider coming back.

The spa is really what it's all about and Brian one of the maintenance staff was especially helpful. Please recognize him for outstanding service!

The Sonnenalp is one of the nicest places in Vail Village to say, the location is outstanding. While we have never stayed there before, we have eaten at all three restaurants within the hotel over half a dozen times. The Swiss Chalet is our favorite due to it's uniqueness, but Ludwig's is fabulous as well. Two of the best restaurants in all of Vail Village located right within the Sonnenalp. Bully Ranch, the third restaurant is a casual pub type experience and is nice for what it is.

In any event, this hotel just for it's location and restaurants alone is worth the stay. Being a 5 star hotel, I'm sure the rooms at the Sonnenalp are beautiful too. One of these days we'll actually stay there!

From the minute we pulled into the valet we felt pampered by the level of service offered. The valet opened the doors to our car, took our luggage, reception had us checked in speedily with a smile and the concierge had dinner in the books. The room was everything advertised and the luggage came quickly. The convenient location to the Vail bus is a very nice amenity for getting to ski school and navigation in general.

The holiday decor is a major bonus. Kings club lounge fireplace is perfect for relaxing. Having all the on-site restaurants is incredibly convenient. The spa has an old world vibe with all the comforts you would imagine featuring indoor outdoor pool and spa, fireplace lounge and oxygen bar. Staff helped me with some aspirin to beat either altitude sickness or Covid booster. Thanks for the hospitality. Highly recommend a stay.

Very nice hotel with terrific service. Rooms are very nice as is the whole facility. Very good location. Biggest asset is the staff; friendly, helpful, go out of their way. Didn't try restaurants. Bully Ranch menu didn't work and Swiss Chalet doesn't serve singles!

Very nice hotel resort. Great castle decor and very nice rooms. Large garden tubs, and walk in showers. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Valet service was excellent and friendly, with a clear explanation of the room and hotel services. Will come back for another stay.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and it was a fantastic stay! Everything was super relaxing and had a wonderful environment catered to us. It has a European feel that I loved and everyone was so sweet and accommodating. Definitely a dream getaway in the mountains of Colorado. The spa is wonderful and relaxing as well. Thank you to the staff that made our stay amazing! Especially the valets and front desk/concierge. Jake, Rachel, and Jaime to name a few of the amazing staff that are at Sonnenalp. Will definitely be visiting again!

This hotel is beautiful and better then the pictures. I always hesitate to book anything that has carpet but the room smelled great and everything sparkling clean. I want to mention the front lobby staff was just beyond amazing. We had our flight cancelled and the staff went above and beyond to help us. The hospitality here has been the best of the best. Room service was quick as well and everything walking distance. We will definitely be back.

This is an excellent hotel but be really careful to only book from the Hotel front desk. I made the mistake of booking online through what purported to be the Sonnenalp website. It was instead something called "Getaroom" I was charged a total of $900.19 for a two night stay in a room listed at $349/night. Then upon checkout the hotel charged us another $989.50.

The room was for my grandson who was getting a shoulder operation at the Vail Hospital. He didn't know the details of my prior payment for the non refundable room so he just let them charge me again. The Sonnenalp has since refunded $537.46 of the total charges of $1889.50; However, they have yet to provide me with an itemized statement of what the Sonnenalp $989.55 charges were for and they say they can't tell me what the $900.19 I paid to "Getaroom" were for.

I have no way to reach "Getaroom " as their receipt contains no contact information. Sonnenalp tells me "Getaroom " is owned by Expedia and that they often create websites designed to fool customers into thinking they are actually dealing with the Hotel--when in fact they are not. Lessons learned: 1)Never book online. 2)Only book through the hotel front desk. 3) Stay at a hotel with a better reservation/billing system than the Sonnenalp.

They advise reasonable rates and then add all kinds of additional fees; They double charge-conveniently not giving customers credit for previous payments through 3rd parties, and they are largely unsympathetic when customers inquire as to why they've been charged $1889.50 for a two night stay advised at $349/night!

We just stayed here for our Anniversary trip and we could have not picked a better place. Their customer service is second to none! BEST customer service I have had at any hotel I have stayed at hands down! The location is perfect and the rooms are so comfortable, we loved the spacious bathroom! Would visit this place again in a heart beat!

Love love love LOVE this hotel! We came here for our honeymoon and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Stylish and clean rooms with very polite staff. From the heated bathroom flooring and cozy gas fireplace to the balcony facing downtown- this hotel ensures every detail is perfect. They even sent up complimentary champagne to celebrate our wedding! HIGHLY recommend and will be returning for ski season.

We stayed at the Sonnenalp for our honeymoon and it was perfect. Upon hearing we were staying for our honeymoon, the hotel upgraded us to a nicer room, which was incredible of them. On top of that, they sent us complimentary prosecco on our first night. Overall, it was a great experience. We loved the nice spa and the very thoughtful service- we were always greeted by name and asked how our day was by the lady who works at the front desk in the evenings/late afternoons. I highly recommend, and I definitely intend to stay again when the opportunity next presents itself!

We were in town for a family friend's wedding and decided to stay here given its close proximity to the wedding venue. The pros: - a nice traditional hotel with well maintained grounds and rooms (rooms have nice heated floors, humidifiers, strong AC which was a plus during the summer heat wave) - walking distance to great restaurants and shopping - nice facilities including the spa, the indoor/outdoor pool, and oxygen bar - make sure to check out the amazing farmers market on Sundays mornings in the village.

It beginnings right in front of the hotel. There's over 100 different vendors for food, dessert, goods, etc.) The cons: - expensive parking fee ($40 per night for valet, there is no self parking option or street parking around) - expensive resort fee ($43 per day but doesn't include much other than access to the pool and fitness center) Vail seems to be a popular and expensive destination year round. For these exorbitant prices, I'm not sure if I'd come back.

This review is specific to the spa. The location is great right in Vail Village. It sounds like they validate parking, but I don't know the details on that. Their lounge area while you wait for treatments is large and nice. However, the women's locker room is very small and I felt like I kept stepping over people in there. One big concern I had was no soap in the locker room/bathroom.

With COVID, that should never be allowed to run out. The treatments themselves were great, but it was odd that there was an uncovered window in the massage room, so I didn't love the lack of privacy. My favorite part was the lounge chairs by the creek. I could've stayed there all day, but alas it rained :. I wasn't sure if you could order food out there, so it would be nice if they proactively told you about that when you check in.

Definitely a 5 star hotel for us. Super accommodating, COLD ROOMS, and a Nespresso machine in the room. Whaaat? It was a beautiful place with a wonderful spa and incredible staff. I would recommend anyone to stay here next time they're in Vail. Loved it.

Fantastic hotel. Service was superb. Our room had an amazing bathroom with a giant bathtub, heated floors, and two side by side sinks. We went during mud season so lots of places were closed. The concierge was instrumental in helping us navigate closures and still have a pleasant stay in the village. Bed and linen were nice and comfy. The room came with a few amenities that we didn't use -- microwave, fridge, and fireplace.

Door could either open to the balcony or tilt open for air flow. Free spring water in the room. Parking was expensive -- $40. Public parking just down the street was free. Pool and jacuzzi were nice and heated, and included both indoor and outdoor options. The spa treatments were fantastic. One of the best massages I've had in a long time.

Originally 3/5 Pros: excellent location, great service from concierge and wait staff and world class food and beverage, nice atmosphere Cons: had issues with the housekeeping touching personal items, moving items and noticed some personal belongings missing after we left. Update: was personally contacted by the head of housekeeping apparently this was an issue with a new employee and was compensated for the lost item will be updating to 5/5

This spa canceled my appointment less than 24 hours beforehand and refused to accommodate my schedule to rebook. I missed out on services for the week because at that point I didn't have time to book anywhere else. Very rude staff and poor customer service.

We stayed at the Hotel Talisa and the concierge there, Christina, recommended we came here for their breakfast buffet. Even though it is slow season ( the end of the ski season as it is Mid April) the Sonnenalp hotel keeps their breakfast buffet operating even during weekdays and until 11am. It is a gorgeous hotel with a pretty restaurant and an amazing buffet.

Lots of options from the hearty to the healthy and fit. Beautiful presentation of the buffet with well made dishes with lots of flavor. Service is attentive and welcoming (not stuck up like in many fine dining restaurants). The stoneware dishes are pretty and go well with the decor and style of the hotel and restaurant. They have the name of the hotel imprinted on them. I was lucky enough to be seated on their sunroom, lots of natural light and a nice view of the hotel around. Great recommendation!

The Sonnenalp was clearly the highlight of our trip! The friendly service, amenities, and charm made the holiday amazing! See my TIP for ski rental information ! The restaurants were laid back and offered several options of casual to fine dining. The spa is well done, and there are so many options that are included with the $15/day resort fee. A touch of Europe during your stay, with incredible hospitality. We'll definitely return

My wife and I (along with our two kids) have been going to the Sonnenalp for years; over that time, Vail has gone through a lot of changes, and so too has the Sonnenalp to stay ahead of others but what's special is they really feel different from other hotels, restaurants, spas, etc. and I think as a guest that's 100% accurate. And having recently held an employee retreat there (for the first time) allowed us to conduct our business and truly treat our employees and expose them to why the Sonnenalp is better/different/unique.

The meeting space was comfortable and spacious. Their IT department and catering took care of all of our ancillary needs and then to have the Hotel and it's amenities just upstairs was terrific. We're a family business - they're a family hotel and we thank them for treating us as such. Cheers!

LOVED this hotel, a great setting for the wedding I attended, but also a tremendous getaway. Owned and operated by a family who lives on-site, this European-style hotel is in an ideal location within Vail Village, walking distance to the gondolas and a short walk to spectacular Ford Park and the Ford Amphitheatre. Less than two hours from Boulder. Outstanding customer service.

A great spa located on premises, loved it, used almost every option and glad that I did! Outdoor hot tubs so relaxing! Enjoyed the library and common areas. The fireplace in my room was so nice, and LOTS of space in the closet. I'll return without a doubt, thankful I stayed there.

Finest example of a "Getaway Resort" in Vail. My wife and I stayed here for a weekend to get away from the summer heat down in Denver. We loved feeling like we were walking into Switzerland every time we got back to the hotel - it feels like Vail was built around the Sonnenalp. Service is 5-star from the greeting at Valet all of the way to how housekeeping turns down your room for bedtime. Yes, you get fresh chocolate chip cookies and they get your bed ready, lay robes out, and close blinds for you.

The amenities on property are great as well. Full-service spa, 6 restaurants, indoor/outdoor pool. I mean, for a while after we arrived I felt like we could have spent the entire weekend at the resort without going into the village! A couple of highlights were laying out at the pool right in between the pool and gore creek, hamburgers and mudslides at the bully ranch restaurant, and a port wine next to the fireplace to cap off a night with live music in their lodge-like resort bar. Book it.
