Medical Massage Center of St. Joseph was established in 2000 by Marlene Peterson-Decio who is the sole practitioner. She received her extensive training in anatomy, physiology and techniques from Blue Heron Academy in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Marlene is nationally certified in Medical Massage and is also a member of the American Medical Massage Association. As an accomplished athlete, Marlene incorporates her knowledge of the movement of the body into each session to facilitate healing of soft tissue injuries.

This is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. Marlene was able to work me in same day due to a cancellation. She was professional and did a great job. Compared to other medical massages I have had, she's a lot more gentle. I was there for low back, hip pain, and received a very relaxing full-body massage. I felt better, though I can't say 100%, upon leaving -- she's not a magician. Cost for a full hour was $75 - very reasonable. Nice, clean relaxing atmosphere. So, compared to other medical massages, I would say that she could have talked to me more (at all) about my injury and been a bit more focused on that area, though I did truly enjoy the relaxation of her technique. Just don't think it will bring complete relief from one visit. I would go back, though.

I came in so sore in my left shoulder and neck that I couldn't even sleep. After a 60 minute deep tissue massage with Marlene, the relief was 100%! I can't thank Marlene enough!
