Great Metropolitan Back Rub Not all bodywork is Massage. It is important to keep in mind that not all bodywork styles feel the same, and not all bodywork modalities can be captured by the word "massage." Therapeutic Bodywork is the general term that encompasses all bodywork styles from Massage Therapy to Reiki, and includes over 200 modalities.

BEFORE YOU BOOK, we recommend that you spend some time looking over the descriptions of the bodywork modalities our current practitioners offer. Same-day therapeutic bodywork appointments are almost always available from our experienced, licensed therapists!
Services
At The Highland Backrub, you can stop by when you have just 30 minutes-up to 90 minutes-and get the areas that are causing you pain worked out so you can go back to work, pick up your kids or take some pain-free time for yourself! And with some of the best practitioners this city has to offer, you will always get the massage you need in the time you have.

Great experience. Atmosphere is quiet and comfortable. I had a 30 minute shiatsu massage. Will do a longer one next time.

I love this place! The ambiance is calm and relaxing and friendly. I like that it's clothes-on - I feel less vulnerable, and it makes the time I take out of my day shorter. They have a broad selection of quality therapists who work in a variety of types of body work. My one complaint is that, though online scheduling is convenient, there are some bugs, including when I want to schedule massages for myself and a friend for the same time. Overall I highly recommend this beautiful little locally- and woman-owned small business!

Everyone in the shop wore maskes, everything was clean and sanitized between clients. Super nice, quiet relaxing atmosphere. Chris hit all the spots that were giving me problems. Could feel the increased bloodflow right away. Reasonable price and was able to schedule and go in on the same day. Definitely will come back again. Perfect little hole in the wall, and really nice backrubs.

If you are concerned for your health and safety this is not the place to go. During the height of Covid pandemic owner actively refused to follow MN State mandates in regard to masks and distancing.

I have been coming here for years and I am so happy to still have a safe and healthy place to come when I want to feel my best! The staff are wonderful and very skilled people. Everything is very clean and they have even added an air purifier for customer's ease. The owner is very sweet and cares most for the well-being of everyone coming to her hard-earned business!

At the Back Rub, they don't discriminate against people who can't wear masks for medical reasons and they do not require verification of medical reasons (as it would be a violation of privacy). I will never stop coming here and I recommend this place to all my friends and family!

Really enjoyed my massage with Cory. He found all the areas that I was in pain and helped relieve my stress. He stayed quiet when I wanted to relax and only talked to ask about areas that I felt pain. I felt comfortable the whole time and I will definitely continue to follow up with appointments. Highly recommend!

Critical: Professionalism Sharing dangerous misinformation without sources, and misrepresentation of a quote from OSHA. Their sign brings serious concern to their safety protocol (or lack thereof).

They are very good about listening to your concerns and making sure they are addressed during your session. If you return to the same person, they follow up with you. Worth every penny more than places like massage envy.

Management believes that masks are harmful and actively spreads misinformation about COVID19 on their Facebook page from weird, fringe sites (articles with no real science, just personal opinion of people with little or no medical training). Do you want to sit in that room for 30 minutes breathing deeply, knowing that there could be someone infectious in the same room, with no precautions in place? I don't. I used to love this place and the massage therapists were great. Never going back again.

Great staff that are attentive and responsive to individual needs. I hurt my back in 2016 and have been coming here ever since. They have more affordable rates than other massage places and do walk in appointments. Check them out next time you're feeling tense

I stopped by before a flight home to Seattle. I loved that I could just pop in without an appointment. My massage was great and I like that I was able to be fully clothed. It was much more comfortable/private than a mall chair-massage. If you need a quick massage or some relaxation in a casual environment, definitely pop in!

Best place to get excellent massage/ shiatsu AND get in within a reasonable amount of time. Amazing therapists with a broad range of skill sets. The therapists are well taken care of, so this draws in a lot of superior talent that sticks around! The Back Rub genuinely cares about it's clientele and can get you on a healing path you can stay on. Massage durations range from 10 minutes to 2 hours. Fully clothed massage *does not* mean less quality, in fact, many prefer it for it's many benefits. Check it out or you are missing out!

Love this place. Convenient. As affordable as massages get. I have a hard time finding a massage therapist who is a good match for me--someone who listens and respects that I know my body best (not just with pressure, but with technique and approach as well). Over the years I've found two great massage therapists (for me) here. Years ago, Nikki, who moved out of state.

More recently, Tamara, whom I get into see as often as I can. It's helped a lot with pain (fibromyalgia-like), helped with sleep, and just quieting my mind. Oddly I always feel worse with acupuncture (have tried so many times/places/approaches), but accupressure-like/pressure point/reflexology/shiatsu massage seems to do the trick. As an aside, at the time of this writing, Tamara isn't formally trained/certified in reflexology or the like, but my experience is that she does it way better than most of the therapists I've seen who have sought that extra certification.

Probably because she's not just going through motions and because she's very respectful. She's more of a healer. Other notes: I try to schedule at less busy times if possible, because then there's less commotion. You do have to tune out some commotion regardless.

This place is a lifesaver! Both times I've battled cancer, this place has helped me on my road to recovery. In the winter, it provides a warm place of comfort and tranquility. In the other months, it's cool and relaxing as well. Aromas of soothing essential oils permeate through the space. They can usually fit you in even if you call last minute.

The owner is extremely helpful and kind. I can't recommend just one massage therapist because I've loved all of them! Each person offers different styles and levels of pressure. Just speak up at the beginning and let them know your needs. I've had both Dwight and Stephanie quite a bit and both are amazing massage therapists! They also provide discounted services for seniors, students and those with disabilities. You can book appt.s online, over the phone or just walk in.

Fast and easy online booking system so I didn't have to wait in any lines to get my 15-minute neck/shoulder massage on such short notice. I had been suffering from tension headaches all morning and found these guys on Yelp. They are not only affordably-priced, they are also professional and very friendly! Sylvia was my therapist and she was awesome--great pressure and very effective. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back again. A+ from this first-timer!

What I love about this place is several things! The therapists always listen to where the pain is and address area. Its very convenient to make an appointment or walk ins and schedule any length of time for your massage. If I get a massage in the morning, I can continue with my day and not feel oily. Great Valentines gift.

I have been getting massages for years but this is by far the best experience I have had. It's always easy to get an appointment. I always feel better after my appointment. The atmosphere is peaceful, friendly, caring. I always look forward to going back! It's a place that I always recommend to anyone who says they wish they knew a good massage therapist.

So this is like a massage place, but they do all treatments with you fully clothed, do really short appointments, and take walk ins. It's meant to be a spot you can pop into on your lunch break for some stress relief and then head back to your office. The good thing is that they take walk-ins. Some days I'm stressed and the fact that I can walk into this place, stash my phone and just breathe while getting my massage is what keeps me from consuming too much white wine later that night.

The problem is, it's very hit or miss when it comes to being able to take walk-ins, and also in the level of service you get. Some days, you can walk right in, other times they'll ask if you can wait for an hour or more. Some days you get really great therapists who do a great job, listen to you when you say what you would like worked on.

Other times you get therapists who are not as skilled, or who have their own agenda. Once I told they lady giving me my massage that I did not want my feet worked on, and she not only argued with me, but proceeded to grab my feet. Another time, I asked to have my neck worked on, and the lady did a terrific job on my back and legs, but never touched my neck!

Of course, I'm a wimp about confrontation, so I meekly thanked her and handed over my credit card. I tend to use them as a last resort, when I'm stressed and my regular place can't get me in.

Went here on Valentines day 2 years ago guaranteeing that regardless of what the guy I was dating planned that night I would have a good V-day. The massage with clothes on is a interesting experience. More professional feeling than those people that do the chair massages in the mall. The great metropolitan back rub is a bit cheaper than going to a spa but honestly I think I prefer a traditional massage experience. It was a good experience and I have been back a few more times. Parking in this area can be a bit tricky.
