My name is Gail Courtney Roberts. My husband, Gordon, and I established GR Therapies in 1994 when I completed my Massage Therapy training at the Sarasota School of Massage Therapy. Gordon takes care of all the accounting and business while I enjoy my profession as a health care practitioner. When I completed my requirements for becoming a therapist I continued gaining more information about massage and the different modalities that a therapist can pursue. Massage Therapy is a highly regulated profession with yearly requirements of continuing education to keep up our licenses.
In school there were many different forms of massage introduced to me but I continued more fully, expanding my knowledge in NeuroMuscular Therapy. I have been certified in NeuroMuscular Therapy by two different NMT Professionals and this includes the deep tissue, myofascial release and Trigger Point work. In addition to reducing stress, muscle soreness and pain in the body, massage offers additional health benefits. CHRONIC STRESS harms both body and mind. We all know that too much stress is bad for us.
Massage is one of the best known antidotes for stress. Reducing stress gives you more energy, improves your outlook on life and in the process, reduces your likelihood of injury and illness. Massage relieves most muscle tightness, from a sudden charley horse to habitually clenched jaws or tight neck muscles. Deep Tissue Massage acts directly on your muscles with stretching and kneading motions. Muscles can become so contracted that they constrict nerves, causing numbness. When this occurs, a massage to release muscle spasms in the area can produce relief by reducing the constriction around the affected nerve.
