Love AmFam! Have been a member for almost 20 years now and still one of the best gyms in Richmond. All their locations are run well and always nice to be able to go change things up and go to a different gym from time to time.

I've been a member of Amfam for years. I really like going to their pool in the summer. Couple years ago, I heard a staff saying the pool water never gets changed, they just use bleach and filtration to keep it clean. Which I thought might've been what every gym does, but this year when I went to the pool with my friends for couple consecutive days, rashes and red spots developed on my skin, my friend who went to the pool with me also had the same rash. The pool water condition is very bad.

This is a fraudulent organisation that takes your money after your membership is no longer valid. I agreed to a month membership in April, hence the day I signed up I also cancelled as well. You guys have been taking money from account since then. This is a rouge organization that steals your money and lies about membership you did not sign up for.

I only went to your gym only in April, but you took money in May and June, even though I cancelled my membership the same day I signed up. You guys have no integrity and trust. I regret walking into this gym and I advise anyone to avoid this gym.

Rebecca at the front desk is awesome! Always smiling and welcoming! Thanks for keeping the racquetball courts a priority, they are in great shape.

Me and my family have been members with Amfam for years, the facility/equipment are great, however there was a isolated indecent that happened involving me and one the staff memebers; Rebecca. I'll be the first to say that I was definitely in the wrong and recognize that I did something I'm not suppose to be doing, even though it really was a complete accident and happened without me being fully aware.

What really shouldn't of happened is how Rebecca handled the situation and proceeded to carry the same mentality even after I was confronted for it. Just straight lies, incredibly bad attitude, unprofessionalism, and petty behavior. It upset me so much that I came in the next day to buy out our contract and switch gyms. When I was asked why am I buying it out, I explained what had happened to me only to be met with a truly sincere apology, real compassion, and assurance that it would never happen again.

You guys were so comforting that it made me realize I shouldn't base an opinion/decision on the acts of a singular individual when as a whole; your staff is honestly amazing. I love them and get a sense of real friendship when I see them almost everyday, Eveline, James, Tony, Savanah just to name a few are great people. So instead I just started coming later in the afternoons and not during openings so I can avoid the massive negative energy Rebecca emits first thing in the morning. I'm leaving a 3 star review, but willing to change it to 5 if she is retrained and taught how to be professional.

This gym is still pathetic. Horribly managed and ZERO regard for their customers/members. Six or so months ago they sold off a lot of their equipment and then started pretending they were going to renovate. Meanwhile, nothing has happened except they have let the place go, equipment is missing, in disrepair and the place is absolutely filthy. And the hours have all been cut back.and they cannot even keep the right times on the front door. Poor, poor leadership.

And the membership rates? Not a change, they are till charging full rate. Tonight, one of their trainers was sitting on a chest press machine [the only one] while watching her client do three slow sets of feeble sets on the adjacent machine. She sat there and sat there and sat there. Five minutes went by while she hogged a machine [doing nothing] at a very busy time.

I finally asked her if she was going to use the machine and she said no and then refused to get up and leave. Unbelievable. This is a perfect example of how they could not care less about their customers. Get your lazy a$$ up and let people use the equipment [how little there is now]! I quit you, AFF.you are all pathetic.

They close early Friday Saturday and Sunday. 9pm 6pm and 6pm respectively and they open late.bI enrolled in another fitness place because of the ridiculous hours. I'm planning on leaving if they dont fix their schedule. This is unacceptable.

I have been a member of this club since 1989 and had a family membership since 2007. My daughter worked there and resigned to go to college. As a result, they erroneously cancelled my membership as they thought that it was an employee rate. When I brought it to their attention, they admitted the mistake was theirs but refused to reinstate the membership unless I agreed to reduce it down to a couple's membership but keep the rate the same. If they will treat a 30+ year member this poorly, how do you think that they will treat you?

I go exclusively for the friendly staff and the wet areas along with the equipment and atmosphere. I give 4 stars only because other locations are reportedly nicer, and the air has a distinct scent/smell. Ginger is very accommodating however I was charged for open pass week Jan 8th through 14th. I'm okay with that because I received a free 7-day pass to help me out at the beginning of my winter break before the holidays (which I was traveling and got sick).

They have been very flexible and my friend works there as well and seems to enjoy his job. I'm used to the college gym life but I very much miss the amenities when I am not at home.

We've been members for over 5 years but only because nothing else substantial is in the immediate area. I am very disappointed overall with the service, hours and cleanliness. And now they have sold off a third of the equipment and are pretending to be preparing for a renovation. But no plans or timelines are available to the members. I do not buy it and see that they have simply sold off equipment to make a buck but have not adjusted member rates or made any improvements. The place is filthy, things are broken and it seems to me they are liquidating. Where are you Lifetime Fitness!?!

Best gym in Richmond and it's not close. Super clean and the equipment is top notch. Ignore the negative reviews on here. Tremendous place to work out.

Working out at this location is great. The staff is always pleasant. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF Ginger Andrews. Apparently once a contract is signed, Ginger discards professionalism, courtesy, and basic concepts of appropriate customer service. The Readers' Digest version: I made an inquiry regarding membership policy. Under Ginger's rule (Not sure if it is an AmFam rule), if she has to explain a company policy more than twice to a customer, it is okay to speak condescendingly, to yell, and to scream at paying customers.my mistake.

As Ginger reminded me, I am under contract, so. To Ginger: As a representative of Amfam, you should be better able to communicate and convey the practices and policies more effectively. If you find that you are incapable of such a task, you should excuse yourself and find someone who can. To prospective members: Ask for another Membership Advisor.

Was a member for 30 years. With their closing fir covid, my suspension in membership due to being at risk for covid, they said my membership expired and refused to re-enroll me at my existing membership price. They should encourage keeping customers and not penalizing members for their errors.

Honestly after being a member for years they still have the odacity to charge me for September even with covid going on. I had called to speak to a supervisor to see what my options were in August it is now October and never received a call back at all. I was then told to cancel and that I would still have to pay September membership fee despite I haven't stepped in the gym once at all due to covid and medical reasons.

They are after your money and don't really care about what I going on with people during this time. Don't join there gym go else where. Otf understands and gold gym understand as other family members are apart of those gyms and they have been nothing but understanding with them.!

Impossible to Cancel! I signed up at the front desk but 2 years later when I was moving I asked the front desk and they gave me a number to a person who never answers. You cannot get in touch with anyone who can cancel a membership and the website wouldnt help at all since they wanted me to create an account just to cancel and I couldnt do the forgot username or password and I couldnt create a new one.

On the phone it was suggested that I find the PDFs, print them, then mail them just to cancel. It always seems like they have 100 employees wondering around and none of them knows how to do anything or what's going on.

American Family Fitness is in the business of racking in profits. Seniors on a fixed budget and are widowed really find it difficult to pay the $65.00 monthly fee. No plans available to accommodate a smaller income. Your overcrowded gym and insane parking lot (bring your stun gun)leave a great deal to be desired. Sad you feel like you do not need the business of helping the elderly. Unfortunately you have to be on a certain Medicare plan it does not come on all plans. I feel you could do much better just give all seniors a break.

Freeman Morgan Architects completed a project in 2007 for American Family Fitness in Short Pump, Virginia. It is the gym's second location in the area since 1988. My experience in both locations showed me that the "look" of both locations reflected the era in which the two gyms were designed and built. Now, in 2020, I see that the two gym floors and the indoor pools still look pretty nice.

The pools have been updated. The strength equipment could use a facelift, but before money is spent there, money should go towards appropriate locker rooms that accommodate today's population. Locker rooms look old and do not meet the needs of everyone. A lot of changes are needed. I am less than eager to take my grandchildren to the gym to go swimming because it is so difficult to dry off in a clean, fresh and safe locker room. Overall I love the gym, the training opportunities and the saline pools. I like the upstairs indoor track very much. I am a fan!

I've been going to AFF for about 4 years now and I've had mixed feelings about them for the longest. It all started with the day after I became a member, I had an appointment to get my free health/ body analysis. But when I showed up, the trainer was too busy to do it. So I rescheduled it a few days later and the he never show up. Wtf. At that point, I didn't care about it anymore.

Fast forward to 2017 and my locker was broken into at about 10pm. Luckily, I didn't have any money in it, but my car keys were missing. So not only did I have to get my car towed to Midlothian, but then I had to pay $300 for a new fob. There is a sign in the locker room that says not responsible for lost or stolen items. And I understand that, but when I told them what happened, all they did was offer me something from the cafe and issue me a new keychain card.

When I talked to the guy at the front desk about my locker, he did say he saw someone rush out with a suspicious long bar, but he didn't get a good look at him. So when I asked about the video camera at the locker room entrance, that was also no help at all. Lastly, when I asked if they could catch the guy if he tried using my old keychain card, they told me there was no way to tell when that particular card gets used. Smh.

At that point, I called it quits. The whole situation was just very disappointing. Another annoying thing is that no matter what day or time I go to this gym, even if it's the middle of the summer, most of the ceiling fans are off or on the low setting. Smh. If I want to sweat that bad, I'd prefer to go in the sauna. As I said in my previous reviews, I do like this gym.

And if you can get past all the wannabes taking pics of themselves, video chatting, and the million other annoying and inconsiderate things they do that can be pretty distracting during a workout, this place would be pretty awesome. This place has pretty much everything that anyone could ask for in a gym. Yes, the price is a little higher than most other gyms, but you pretty much get what you pay for.

HORRIBLE! The interior workout equipment, etc is fine, but if you fall on hard times financially- THEY DO NOT CARE! I lost my job and as a single mother of 2 who had to eventually get on public assistance to be able to continue to feed my family, yet when I showed them the proof that I barely had income and that I was making ends meet living on WELL BELOW the poverty line they DID NOT CARE!

They wouldn't release me from my contract so I had to forgo important bills like electric and utilities to keep paying a gym I was never able to attend again because I couldn't afford the gas to get out there to workout anymore! NOT ONLY THAT BUT I PAID MY BILL ON TIME- but because it wasn't made with the card on file, a card that was declined, they charged me a $25 fee (ALTHOUGH IT WAS PAID ON TIME!) so they kept hitting my card to get the $25 fee paid and of course it declined because there was nothing on it, so they added another fee for that decline as well, and on and on- the bill racked up to over $100 in fees for not paying a late fee of a bill that WASN'T EVEN LATE! It was paid on the due date of the 1st of the month! DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM! WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!

I hate to use harsh words but. This gym is terrible. It sucks. Point blanks. I have this gym chance after chance and they did nothing but take my money and treat me like a no one. My first interaction that made things go down hill was with a STAFF MEMEBR. I went to restroom and the lady goes "your gorgeous do you have a husband or kids" I say " no ma'am I have a girlfriend who I see a future of marriage and kids " Her face drops and I kid you not. she told me I was going to hell and that god killed people like he and wiped out whole city's for this behavior and that I need to change my ways I'm too pretty to be gay. ya da ya da ya da.

I was so scared to even report her but I did and I got a phone call with an "apology" it seemed real but there was nothing said to me when I walked in the gym it was just awkward tension. The situation was never really settled proper in my opinion. Then after I canceled my membership they claim they did not file my cancellation properly and they had charged me for 2 WHOLE months after my cancellation.

I contacted they said they would see what they could do about the 80$ taken out of my account. It was a short game of call this person and email this blah blah. Long story short you will just me a membership and a dollar sign to this company. Don't do it.

Interestingly enough I came here because I signed up for a free day to check out the gym so I would've expected to be taken around the gym to tour the facility however I was told to sign in and the equipment is right there. I strolled around and worked out and notice that equipment is not well maintained at all. The gym overall is decent but I wouldn't pay more than $10 a month for a gym like this. It kind or reminds me of a ymca. The facility was funky throughout and the equipment especially the cardio equipment seemed to be very dated.

The Corporation will rip you off. Essentially, due to an employee making a mistake and misinforming me, the site management refused to admit fault and charged me $140. I had to move and due to one of their employees not informing me of the proper account freeze paperwork before I could cancel, they refused to reimburse me for fraudulent charges for two months. If you would like to be disrespected, given the run around, and cheated if your life changes, sign up and hate yourself

I had been a member here from 2012-2016, then spent a year at Crunch. I'm now back here at Amfam and let me say the difference is night and day. Amfam gives you a steam room, sauna, a track, pools, hot tub, basketball courts, racquetball courts, a ton of group class options, and even tanning if you're into that. The employees are great, inviting and helpful. Al, a membership director I believe he is, is wonderful to work with.

He remembered me from 2012 when I walked back in there, 6 years later. This gym feels like home, family, all that good fuzzy feeling stuff. The grass was not greener on Crunch's side.

This gym has everything. Steam room in the locker room, racquet ball court, indoor track, about a hundred cardio machines. It can get pretty crowded in the morning and after 5pm, but since it is 24 hours during the week, you can get in there after the crowd and get yourself a good workout. They have staff around the clock to help with machines you are not familiar with and cleaning the place.

They can be hard to find some days, but they are there. A bit pricey for a membership, but they have several locations in VA and up to date equipment, so you are getting what you pay for.

Friendly staff, ample equipment, nice basketball court. Gets busy at times but that's par for the course at pretty much any gym.

I liked the equipment, but. I am EXTREMELY disappointed at my experiences with them. Here's my feedback: 1) I was a pretty happy customer for a long while, but then I incurred 2 injuries while working out there (one during one of their yoga classes). I quickly discovered how NON-helpful they can be. By that time my contract was over, and I was on the month-to-month. Realized MUCH too late that you have to read the fine print when it comes to "cancelling".

If you don't do it "right", and EXACTLY according to how they want it, then they like to take advantage. 2) And THAT is exactly my main issue - they are LOVING to take advantage. And with me they have done exactly that. Despite canceling my membership AFTER the contract period in written form (email), I assumed it was done. No more charges, and no notices from them.until more than a year later when I receive a letter from their establishment claiming I owed them over $250. 3) I have since discovered that there are NO kind or understanding or seemingly human people working the financial aspects of American Family Fitness.

My ONLY experiences with them has been EXTREMELY poor customer service - a followup to information request or a callback.forget it. 3) Like me, (according to what I could find online about Am Fam complaints) NUMEROUS others have attempted to cancel their memberships after the contract period, only to be given the run around. One person tells me to contact person A.

Person A tells me to contact person B at Am Fam at Short Pump, but she NEVER returns my calls and is always "in meetings". 4) Note: I finally looked them up online - and discovered that I am not the only one that their credit department is harassing, creating very similar issues as mine. Bottom line: their "business practice" after the contract period sucks.

No way around it. It does NOT favor the client, it ONLY favors the corporation. And it needs to change. 5) My final words: DON'T do it! They only want your cash flow and the contract. The contract is WAY more important to them than you as an individual.
