Alexandria Myotherapy is a wonderful resource for my practice. Whenever I have patients that are seeking massage I direct them to the skilled and professional practitioners at Alexandria Myotherapy. Their therapists supply superb treatment with a array of modalities and are capable to assess and treat a huge array of musculoskeletal complaints. I am very impressed by their work.

I started going to Myotherapy about a month ago and I love it. Darla is so kind and fingers have the magic touch. My second time back I saw Mark. Mark really relieved my pain spots and bed side manner was superb. Looking forward to my next visit. I would recommend to anyone and if you had cosmetic surgery, this team will get you back to comfort lane. Such a professional but yet down to earth environment!

** UPDATE** SATURDAY 2 APRIL ** Shortly after writing this review, Dina the owner of Myo therapy called back to discuss my review. She also offered me a complimentary massage to try and resolve the issues I had. She was very professional, and addressed all my issues. I felt amazing afterward. I think I just didn't have the right therapist-client with Rita because I hear great things about her as well.

So I will change my review to 5, because of the professionalism, excellent customer service and exactly the therapy I needed. Thank you Dina! Today I went in for my 1st visit, choosing off the list of available MT's and the great reviews I was excited to get a massage with Rita. I was welcomed and was asked questions regarding my areas of concern and felt that she understood what I was looking for. "Relaxation and some muscle recovery" from exercise and life.

Her approach was very different, I am a very ticklish person if not enough pressure is applied so I did ask her to apply more pressure since I was not asked about it at all. I did jump a few times in certain areas before I said something. but even after I mentioned it. She did not respond, or follow up with me. I then thought she may have not heard me.

She again started on my back and I again asked her for more pressure and she responded that my shoulders were tight (?) My entire back was not addressed, the amount of oil used on my body was ridiculous, and not allowing any friction over any muscles. I felt as if she was painting with her fingers and applying oil to my body rather than giving me a massage.

She moved my scapula and told me the way was lying was making my traps tight.again (?) This was irrelevant and still did not address any tightness in my muscles. She then proceeded to use her tips of her fingers in my armpit area while holding my arm out.again not relaxing if someone if poking you in your arms. I felt more of joint movement than a massage my arms.

She then proceeded to palpate my ASIS and pushed in my abdomen which I clearly told her was uncomfortable. She stopped and proceeded on my thigh and applied pressure in all the wrong places. She was not aware or my body tensing up and she proceeded to my lower leg using her knuckles on my shins. And as she approached the other side.still went to my abdomen area again!

I was more tense the entire time than relaxed. After the session, she asked if I felt relaxed and I replied. "No, I felt you did more joint mobility than anything. I did not feel relaxed." She said, "oh I didn't do much strecthing." My face again (?) Again not sure if there is a language barrier or if she just didn't care. But I felt every feedback or question answered was being ignored.

I am not one to write a bad review but this was terrible for the amount the charge. I wish I just got up off the table. Maybe it wasn't the right therapist for me. But I will not be going back there.

Alexandria myotherapy is amazing. If you are looking for skilled bodywork for your aches and pains, then This is your place. All of the staff are extremely talented and passionate about what they do. Leanne is genuine, hardworking, and really knows her stuff. I've had a few recent orthopedic injuries and surgeries, Leanne took the time to review my medical history, ask appropriate questions, and create a treatment plan. Finding her and this place has been life changing! Plus you can schedule appointments online! Just do it!

Had my first session here with Leane and was very impressed. Def plan to make this a regular thing. My only suggestion is to leave 5-10 mins extra your first time to get there because its not entirely logical how to get into the building.

I have had a Rolfing series as well as several "touch up" sessions with Allison and she's amazing. She's extremely knowledgeable and has helped me overcome severe ongoing pains from various trauma to my body. I highly recommend her to everyone I know!

LeAnn is da bomb! Her stroke is so effective and patient. The muscles just surrender to her technique and you feel so much looser and better afterwards. Reward yourself with 90 minutes and you will not be sorry!

For more than 22 years, Alexandria Myotherapy has been a positive factor in my health and well-being. All of the therapists (most often using deep tissue massage) have benefited me especially in relieving tight muscles, improving range of motion and greatly diminishing pain. Sometimes I am fortunate to secure more than one appointment/week. Currently I am grateful to have Mr. Bo Lindberg as my therapist. He is yet another asset to this fine practice. Allison is a miracle-worker. 'Nuff said! The practice is a very nice, modern, clean space with spacious and well-appointed rooms. I was referred here by my Chiropractor and I'll definitely be referring friends here.

I was able to quickly get a same day appointment as a new client and was seen by Bo. Bo was very nice and considerate of the pressure he was applying. I went in feeling extremely uncomfortable and tense all over. The day after my massage, I was surprised by how good I felt! I thought I would feel sore because I let Bo really dig into some of my worst areas but I felt great.

That is a testament to his skills and training. If you'd like a spa-like, very quiet experience, this is not for you as the walls are thin and the floor squeaks when people walk by. It didn't bother me since I was there more for body therapy than to relax.

I've been seeing Sheri for a while now (at least 10 times) for myofascial massage, and I am more than happy. After almost every session (I always do an hour and a half), I feel like I have new life in my joints and muscles. She is the best I've seen because she actually listens to what you need and where to go where most massage therapists I've seen (and I've seen many because of chronic musculoskeletal pain) just do what they think they should do.

And I feel these sessions with other therapists are a waste of time and money because I didn't feel free to be heard outside of "that hurts" (although I still see other massage therapists for supplemental massage monthly since it's cheaper.but you get what you pay for). My last myofascial therapist did the same (ongoing pain scale check in) but unfortunately, he no longer takes appointments. Seeing a review here on Yelp that indicates annoyance with Sheri's method, I see this is not everyone's "cup of tea" but it is essential for people like me with chronic pain problems.

I have never met anyone else so willing and open to try other methods along with the usual myofascial massage, like gua sha, fasciablasting (byob), meridian line stretching, skin rolling, etc. If you see her for relaxation you probably won't be too happy (although I'm sure she scales down - just let her know), but if you want a collaborative therapy to really get some work done (yes, including you!), this is the person to see! P.S. Once in a while I feel the nails but it's not that bad (for me).

I learned of this practice on Yelp and decided to try it. The management went the extra mile to accommodate my schedule. I melted into the heated massage table, a first for me and fantastic on a cold day. Allison did a great job. I walked in with some lower back discomfort and walked out feeling fantastic. Very professional, low key atmosphere. I would go again and would recommend AM to others.

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and have been in search of a good masseuse my entire pregnancy. Allison gave me the best prenatal massage ever. My third trimester has been particularly hard (constant lower back pain, swelling feet, CTS, etc.) and I felt so much better after seeing her! My husband and I were able to get same day appointments. I believe he saw Darla for a Swedish massage and was also very satisfied. They cater to the needs of their clients. We will definitely be back!

I have a back injury that spasms once a year or so due to various causes (carrying a baby car seat, sitting badly while working at a computer, etc.). It is extremely painful, but some great massage therapists, who have moved out of the area, have solved it in the past. Since I was close to tears in pain, I was extremely grateful when Sandra Levy had an appointment opening on a Sunday afternoon about a month ago.

She was extremely knowledgeable, listened carefully and intently to my complaint, and seemed to know exactly what to do. With my permission, she used a Chinese scraping massage technique called Gua Sha that is painless, but gives you a really nasty-looking, red bruise on the area. She also used deep tissue massage on the area. I looked like I had had a nasty fall or fight!

As she said it would, the bruise was gone in a couple of days. Also, in a couple of days, the pain and muscle spasms were completely gone! She also called to make sure I was o.k. afterwards. So I give my highest recommendation to Sandra Levy at Alexandria Myotherapy!

I strongly recommend Bonnie, Rita, Sheri and Sandy. Actually, I strongly recommend this entire practice, but finding the right massage therapist for what you need (and what your body needs that week or whatever) is a highly personal decision and every body responds differently to certain touches. That said, Alexandria Myotherapy, like the practice where I work (full disclosure: I'm a massage therapist!) recruits therapists with such diverse skills and deep knowledge that I'm confident you'll find the right therapist for you -- just as I have since 1999.

I have been going to Alexandria Myotherapy for 7 months. During this time I have only worked with one person, Rita. I ended up finding this place by accident. I was looking for something to do about an ongoing problem with pain in my foot. It turns out Rita is a true massage professional with many years of experience and training. I told her about the problem I was having and her work made a significant relief to my problem.

At that point I had seen my primary physician, a chiropractor and gotten several acupuncture treatments for it. None of them were as effective as the treatment I was provided here. Eventually, I ended up seeing a podiatrist that diagnosed it as a bruised nerve. He had to treat it with several injections over several weeks. It started improving very slowly with this almost as fast as it could have gone on its own.

The treatment Rita provided helped relieve the pain and improve the problem as I recovered. This was very important given the pain I was dealing with. Rita is extremely knowledgeable and strives to do an excellent job every single time. I'd also like to talk about the venue itself: If you are not familiar with chains like Massage Envy, please let me explain.

When you pay for a 1 hour massage at a franchise, you pay for something around 40 minutes of actual massage. The reason is because the massage therapist is required to do more than just give you a massage during the one hour you pay for: they required to prepare the room for you and wait for you to get undressed etc. Every single massage I have had at Alexandria Myotherapy, not only has been of superior quality, but has also met my expectations on the duration.

If I pay for an hour I get a massage that lasts one FULL hour. If you are worried that the pricing is not as good as some promotional pricing out there.you are not really paying less in those other places. I believe the prices at Alexandria Myotherapy are regular market price if you just compare hours to dollars, but what most places provide for that amount of money does not come close in actual massage duration and quality.

For that reason, I think getting a massage here is actually is a great deal better than market price. The lobby offers purified water and natural medicine literature. They also keep the air clean with air purifiers which I really appreciate because clean air contributes to the relaxation effect (at least on me it does) The decorations are mostly indigenous which I find very pleasing.

The expensive stuff is where it counts. The massage tables are heated and the tables can automatically rise and lower so that you don't have to climb in and out of the table. This may be especially important if you are coming in for back pain! Also, the massage rooms are spacious. I am looking forward to my next massage!

I lived in Arlington and Alexandria VA for almost 30 years. I recently moved to the Nashville TN area and want to say---the place I miss the most is Alexandria Myotherapy in Old Town. It is a haven of healing. The professional expertise and experience of each massage therapist is unmatched in the DC area (in my opinion). Many doctors and chiropractors send their patients here.

That speaks volumes! I've been to several therapists there over the years, but my favorite is Rita. Berkeley, the MIddle East, the Far East, and several other schools of massage have deepened her gift of being 'present' and acting as a healer on many levels. This place is not just another new age, incense-burning, 'skin polishing' establishment.

The caliber of talent here is far above the norm. One visit and most realize nothing else comes close. Note: if it's your first visit, get there at least 15-20 minutes ahead of time. There's plenty of street parking, but sometimes you have to drive around a bit.

Came in for the first time and was seen by Christina. The place is clean and quiet. I arrived on a weekend and printed out the parking pass and there was no difficulty finding a parking spot. I was seen promptly and was very pleased with the service and in general. It's a great place to get massage therapy!

I am a client of Christina Miller King at Alexandria Myotherapy and have been remiss in writing a review for her especially since she helped me rid myself of a chronic pain in my shoulder area that I have had for over 5 years. Christina is not only exceptionally professional and skillful in her field but is also very knowledgeable in the areas of injury rehabilitation and prevention outside of massage therapy.

After an aggressive and punishing series of appointments as well as following Christina's suggestions for stretching and exercise, I was finally able to be pain and stiffness free for in first time in a half decade. I am happy to highly recommend Christina and Alexandria Myotherapy for anyone experiencing similar chronic issues.

I love Alexandria Myotherapy. The therapists are great. They are well trained and really understand the body/muscles. I've been going there monthly for about 4 years and don't go anywhere else. Sheri is fabulous. I get an amazing massage every time and she does a great job of tailoring it to focus on a particular area if there is an ache or issue I have at the moment. She's also trained in pregnancy massage, which was an essential part of my prenatal care.

I've been going to Alexandria Myotherapy for almost five years and am extremely satisfied with my experience. The therapists are very knowledgeable, skilled and caring. Not only are the massages very relaxing and enjoyable, but my massage therapist was integral to my healing from a significant car accident. My therapist is committed to my overall health and has made recommendations for activities/resources that have been helpful to me.

The facilities are clean, service is prompt, scheduling is easy and the staff make you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. Alexandria Myotherapy is the only place I get massages unless I'm out of town and I wouldn't have it any other way! I highly recommend them!

Spa massages are all very well, but when you want physiologically-trained massage therapists who are masters of the craft of understanding the body, and using touch and pressure to make you healthy, then go here. The atmosphere at this place is very relaxing, but the focus is on working out the kinks in your muscle tissue which are constricted, strained, locked, or injured.

I have been going to Maggie Wissert for years. I call her a "Massage Sage" in that she combines the science and art of body healing through touch and pressure in the way that only a very experienced person who loves their craft can. I've been to numerous massage places and I know the difference between a "Sage" and a good masseur or masseuse. Maggie will start by checking in with the client about what their problem spots are.

She then works through the whole body and focuses on specific trigger points where knots and tension build up. She doesn't overwork the trouble spots, rather uses the power of pressure over time and also massages pain-referral spots in order to release constrictions. She will also describe what she is doing so the client's mind focuses on release. It's amazing how body awareness will help to heal.

I get off the table feeling like revived person! It helps she is a sensitive and compassionate listener with a good sense of humor in her approach to healing. I cannot recommend more highly! This massage practice also offers luxurious coverings, heated massage tables (if you choose) and meditative music. I've also had really solid experiences with Rita, Darla and Sandy.

Seems like a dependable massage clinic. In a good location/nice office setting, with easy street parking. Look for pre-pay discounted gift card promotions online! I paid $85 for one hour, which seems average to better than average for DC area.

As an office, very professional and well-run. As with all massage, your experience will vary based on your own wants and needs. I do not visit very often anymore, but it hasn't changed much. A very respectable massage clinic with a variety of offerings and therapists. I could never seem to find a therapist that I meshed with (bodywork-wise. they were all perfectly nice people), but they were still very skilled and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them if you're close by.

Definitely a therapy focus then spa focus, which I like, but they have some more esoteric practices depending on the person (hot stone, reiki, etc.) Parking can be weird. Prices are on par with others in the area. I like the office, it's very quiet and welcoming.
