Services
It was Mary Jo's wish to create a school that was centered on the student's growth as an individual. Part of UTMI's philosophy is to ensure that our students are well prepared to work in any professional environment or open their own private practice. Our qualified instructors are thorough, detailed and dedicated.
Our Therapeutic Massage Program encompasses 722 hours of practical education. These hours include 150 hours of supervised Clinical Practicum Internship allowing the students to develop their newly acquired skills by working with the general public. Our students graduate with a thorough knowledge, understanding, and solid training in many highly sought-after therapeutic modalities.
This is an advanced program that will qualify the student to apply specialized techniques for "treatment specific" massage therapy methods. This training will increase the student's qualifications for working in a medical setting. These courses (which cover all 4 major body regions) are designed to train students to define a logical, structured approach to assessment, treatment, and development of an appropriate plan for regional structural dysfunction in the body.
The Financial Aid Department at Universal Therapeutic Massage Institute works tirelessly on behalf of our potential students, current students and parents of students. As a Title IV School, we are able to assist in obtaining Federal funding (Federal Pell Grant, Federal Subsidized Loans and Federal Unsubsidized Loans).

Poor massage from uninspired student. And that was where it started. I asked a few questions after my massage and they went around the room. Nothing but a bunch of shrugs and "I don't know". The staff does not know the BASICS of massage. The owner and manager both struggled to act legitimate. I looked into it and found that many of these positive reviews were written by students and staff. This is a clear conflict of interest and further evidence that this school lacks integrity. Yuck.

I want to address the review by LPS Gecko Girl. I was in the waiting room when this person came in. This person was not polite AT ALL to the receptionist and it you think you were you might think about who you are. Barbara, the receptionist was as polite as she could be while being talked to in such a condescending tone. UTMI is a very professional place. I love it!

Just had an appointment with them today. Had a great experience. They are friendly, professional and my therapist was a student and she did a great job. The only thing I'd say is I like a massage with massage oils vs the lotion that they use. I am very happy my husband and I chose this place will return and tell others of this place as well.

This place is REALLY affordable if you get a student masseuse. Although because they are students you are kind of rolling the dice about the quality of the massage because they are still learning. Overall I've had good experiences with most of my massages. The woman at the front desk, Barbara, could be a little more polite though. When I spoke with her she was very short and it didn't feel very friendly. But she may have been having an off day. Overall very affordable massages. Would recommend.

UTMI is a wonderful school. I appreciate the modalities that are taught in this school. The staff is friendly, helpful and professional. The staff and students are concerned about the clients. The clients best interest and health are their number one concern. I recommend this school if you are wanting a great career or a wonderful massage.

I LOVE this school! I had fun from the day I stepped in to talk to Admissions to the last day of school, which was a full year later, since I also took the advanced class. Rich and Rick were awesome. Great people to talk to. I always get something out of our conversations. I love Christine's humor and I cannot forget about the instructors I had! Dr Kim, Peter, Roberta, Jennifer, Dr Nan, all were great teachers!
Thanks to them I passed my MBLEx on the first try and so did 4 of my other classmates. I had so much fun with all the classes. Pathology was hard, but it's pathology. You can't expect that class to be easy. Then the Medical course really got my confidence up. This course helped me understand the muscles more in such details. I have been using this place for several years. The rooms are always extremely clean. The staff is exceptional. I have had both the professional massage and the student massages. Never have I had a bad experience. I have tried the other "massage schools" in Albuquerque, and they have nothing on the professionalism that this place and their staff consistently provides.

Universal Therapeutic Massage has a really great program. I am partial as I am a former student and now I am a Licensed Massage Therapist. My experience at UTMI was amazing. The education that I received from my time at UTMI was top notched. The instructors and staff were with me every step of the way. My time working in the clinic was invaluable in my training.
It really helped me grow as a Therapist and I was able to work with many wonderful people from the public. Many of those wonderful people are still clients to this day. If you have the opportunity to get a massage from one of the students or from one the Professionals (all of which are graduates of UTMI) you can't go wrong. As long as you remember that unless you request a Professional Therapist you will be receiving a student massage and they are still in training.
You will be getting a really good massage at a discounted rate! And anyone that is looking to make a change in their life and have considered Massage Therapy you should really check out the program at UTMI you won't be disappointed.
